Editors Review:

Media Temple is a web hosting and cloud services provider headquartered in Los Angeles, California and founded in 1998.  They provide hosting for websites and applications as well as virtual servers, email, and other Internet content. They serve over 100,000 customers and over 1 million websites from its data centers in the United States.  Their grid server shared hosting plan means that you don’t need to worry about sudden increases in traffic, if you need more bandwidth or space you can just add to your grid cluster.  The Grid is perfect for WordPress blogs, portfolio sites and small business website with e-commerce.

Clustered architecture

MySQL GridContainers provide performance-tuned environments and dedicated resources specifically designed for database-heavy applications. It’s like having a mini dedicated server attached to your grid service.  The good thing about this is they you can grow slowly without paying for unused bandwidth and storage space.

Each pool of clusters is optimized for a specific task (web services, email, databases and more). With multiple servers handling each task, redundancy is built-in and your sites never have to fight for the resources of a single server.  Your sites seem to be ready to handle large bursts of web traffic from any source and when your traffic goes away so does the costs.  This is because your databases automatically scales along with your web traffic using their innovative Auto-Scaling MySQL system.

The Grid Server package my client used costs $20 a month but if you think thats expensive you have to remember that you’re also getting a content distribution network that usually costs $20 thrown in automatically.  Free Content Distribution Service (CDN) means that they store temporary copies of your site at various locations across the world at strategic spots and the content distribution network sends visitors the copy nearest their location. This means much faster loading sites for both visitors and search engines.

Control Panel:

The AccountCenter is Media Temple’s custom all-in-one hosting control panel and account management center. The single source for all of your ( Grid-Service controls, support requests, billing inquiries and more!  Blog, sell, and manage your content with no-hassle installations of top choice web applications. This is available directly inside the AccountCenter and ready for installation 24/7/365. Some of the featured applications include WordPress, Drupal, ZenCart and more and if they don’t have your application you can request them to install or get it for you.

Customer Service:

I’ve only used their customer support for my clients websites and I had no problems but as with all tech support it matters who you talk to.  Media Temple support is open 24 hours, 7 days a week and I’ve never had to wait more than a couple of minutes to talk to someone on the phone.  If you have a pressing problem, call them rather than use email support because you often have a waiting time for an email response. I’ve read horror stories online but again you will always have someone who things their “WordPress site” should just bring them money and when it doesnt they complain that its the host.
